Peter Thomasroth Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum review

Funnily enough, when it’s less than a quarter, I started to feel anxious. It almost feel like I don’t want this to run out. Make up your mind, K! 🤪🤛🏼 I realized then I stick with it because of how easy it is for me to slip it into my routine.

How I use it: I insert it after a first essence (Sulwhasoo FCAS EX) then pack on several layers of hydrating toner afterwards. I can also apply it after a pre-serum (Lancome Advanced Genifique) and then either use another essence (La Mer The Treament Lotion is my fave for this), a hydrating serum or just continue with a moisturizer. I also love doing CSM after applying this. I feel this technique helps to really push product into the skin while infusing more hydration.

This is silicone-based, yep, the first ingredient is cyclopentasiloxane. The next one is Squalane. This doesn’t have that usual thick, silky finish that I often associated with a matte makeup primer. Instead, this has a dry-oil feel. Very thin, very runny. You’d probably guess it’s water. The paper thin consistency seeps into the skin effortlessly, leaving minimum weight and layers with other products well. I thought I might experience with pilling or balling, but I didn’t. No clogged pores either. Whoopee!

It has 1.5% Microencapsulated Retinol, said to slowly sustaining release over eight hours. As you know, Retinol can help to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enhance overall’s skin tone and achieve smoother texture. This PTR Serum ticks all of the above, so I am pleased with that! It also has Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Palmitate) and Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) for added antioxidant benefits.

Throughout the first month of usage, I remember not breaking out, not massively enough for me to notice. At the time, I was actually dealing with a different type of breakout due to the heavy pollution. I felt inserting a retinol product would help the skin to also regenerate from within, and it did help to push out congestions, resulting in a smoother skin.

For a 1.5% potency, I want to say that it’s quite tamed. I expected it to be more substantial considering this is the highest amount of Retinol I’ve ever used to date. It didn’t irritate my skin nor dried it out. No dry patches, no tightness. Maybe it’s the time-released technology. Maybe it’s because of the silicone and Squalane that act as emollient, keeping the skin moisture in. One thing for sure, I always make sure to keep my skin well hydrated and moisturized.

I’d say 30 ml bottle goes a long way. I usually use about 10 drops (or more maybe) every time almost every night and it still lasted me for months. Will I come back to it? Hem, maybe later. The idea of finishing another bottle is making me queasy. I want to try other product at the moment. I still have a fresh unopened bottle though
